Nov 2009: Baldwin School Repeats TIC

Update from Greater Boston Trout Unlimited:

One of GBTU’s favored projects is“Trout in the Classroom”, in which we provide equipment that school kids use to nurture trout or salmon eggs for ultimate release in MA streams.

President David Glater recently asked Michael Hopper, teacher and TIC mentor, to report on his project. The following is his response.

Hi David,

I wanted to let you now that I have started year 2 of trout in the classroom here in Cambridge at the Maria L. Baldwin School. This year the tank is set up in my son’s second grade class. On a bright day this December, my son James and I drove down to Wayne Miller’s hatchery on the Cape and collected 140 brook & brown trout eggs. Everything is going well and we expect the eggs will start hatching in the next 7-10 days. After the eggs hatch I will send you a few photos and a brief article for your website & newsletter.

Thank you all again for funding this.

The kids are really excited, and can’t wait for the eggs to hatch!

Regards,
Michael Hopper
