As the new year comes sliding in and we get back to a routine, consider how fortunate we are to have our local tackle and fly shops (and all other “little local guys”) around. You can’t beat a tip from someone working at Red Top on where to go for stripers at sunset and during which tide.

Smitty up at Rod Builders will hook you up with a 5wt. St Croix for a very competitive price and Scott at the Bear’s Den will help you choose some fly tying material that you’ve never used before.

These are knowledgeable folks who have their fingers on the pulse of the market and fishing conditions in your own back yard. You don’t get that at the big conglomerate sporting goods-fishing tackle-get your oil changed-linens-housewares-DVD, video and HDTV-discount lingerie store !!!! Not only that, but the synergy between an organization such as ours and local tackle and fly shops is mutually beneficial. The yearly Bear’s Den show is a fine example. We’ll have a booth there.

The alternative should we lose this is not good. Once they’re gone, they won’t be replaced.
